Once you pass the SLAM and go to normal maintenance you need to get your CYA to 50. That will protect your FC better. But remember, you will use 2-4 ppm of FC per day. With a 23K pool that is 136oz of 8.25% bleach each day (using 4 ppm loss, since I bet their are kids swimming most every day).

Good lord. A gallon a day?? I guess that's why people use pucks. Is there a "good" chlorine puck to use that doesn't jack up the CYA or anything else?

Just answered my own question by re-reading pool school. Bleach it is!
