First SLAM

Hi everyone,

This is my first attempt at this. I was trying to lower my ph to get started but I overshot it a little its about 6.8, and my cya is 30 but I just read today that it should be tested in the sun. So I will test that again tomorrow since it is raining tonight. I need to find my shock level and do I need to raise the ph back up to get started or will it come up some with the chlorine?

Thanks in advance.
Kim

Welcome!

How fast the pH will rise depends a lot on the TA value. What'd you get for that one?In fact, what'd you get for everything?

Post like this
FC - Free Chlorine
CC - Combined Chlorine
pH
TA - Total Alkalinity
CH - Calcium Hardness
CYA - Cyanuric Acid (stabilizer)

And also tell us what the water looks like. Clear, murky, cloudy, green, sludge?

I haven't actually done all of those tests yet. I just got my back running after a lightening strike, and it had been off all winter. I have so been running the pump 24/7 for 2 and a half days with muratic acid going in daily because the ph was off the charts high. The color started out a deep green but now its a medium green milky color. I will run all of the tests and post them with pictures asap. My goal is to be hosting a Memorial day pool party by next Sunday....wish me luck.

OK here are the test results best I can calculate, and yes I have a good kit (K-2006) watch youtube videos to make sure I was using it right.
FC 0
CC1.6
PH too low to calculate but it took 3 drops on base demand
TA 20 ppm
CH 140 ppm
CYA too low to register

I want to get it slammed as fast as possible. Can I get started? Also I don't know how to see what my shock level should be.

Help me please.... I have been pulling stuff out of the bottom of the pool today. But I still need advice on what to do first, second and third. For curiosity sake my husband took a water sample to the pool place because I had to get a new pressure gage for my sand filter and they said to get the alkalinity up first. I was wanting to try this slam process but the weekend is half over and I need to start something.

Yes, alkalinity to 50 or 60 first. Without that, pH adjustments are prone to violent swings. Give it half an hour to mix--you can brush to help it-- then adjust pH to 7.2. With no CYA shock level is 10 FC. Go add bleach and start the SLAM with that.
