Hi there. I am a pretty handy guy, but this is my first experience with my new pool. I have a little time until i open it, as I wait for my new roof to be put on.

I have a few very simple questions about my equipment (I did watch the videos on the opening process, and think I will be ok there).

In the pictures:

1) what does the brown bell shaped item do, connected to the tall plastic piping.

2) can you explain to me the valves, what direction tells me which way the eater is flowing, you can see two valves in the picture, if the handle is pointed toward that pipe, does it mean that pipe is closed off?

3) why are there the upside down U, is this some sort of return if i want to bypass the pump, seemed odd to me?

Thanks.

thank you, ok, I see how the valve handle works and that makes sense.

The thing I mention is under the valve handles. There are 3 pipes there, but why, the upside down U and then the pipe going out to the pump...

if I open/close those two valves, where is it diverting the water too? Seems like extra pipes.

Thanks.

If you're referring to the third picture, those are suction lines. The way the valves are set in the picture, all the water is coming from the right, wherever that leads... probably to the skimmer. The two pipes to the left are both blocked. But it you turn the handle closest to the pump 90 degrees (so skinny part of handle points at pump) then you'll be splitting the suction between the right pipe and the left pipe closest to the pump.

Experiment a little and see what changes. You're going to have suction going to skimmer(s) and drain(s) and possibly a spa or a suction side cleaner.

Ah hah! yes - referring to the third picture, I now see the two left pipes are closed off... and makes sense the main water is coming in from the right pipe and going to the pump.

Not sure why those two are closed off... I will open it up. My understanding is that those should then suck from some other place aside from the main skimmers...

THANK YOU.
