First Pool Opening a Sucess (with pictures)

Hi everyone,

Moved into a house with a pool last September... had the pool store close it (they did it for free) and decided to open it myself. The pool as a mesh safety cover, which worked wonderfully at keeping the gunk out. The water was pretty clean when I took it off, with the exception of a few leaves and a lot of worms.

Anyway, my only problem was the shaft to the pump motor was apparently seized from sitting all winter. I had lube it up with WD-40 and use vice-grips to get it spinning feely again. After that I reinstalled everything and it started right up. The motor was heavily corroded though, so I'm not sure how long it's going to last.

Thanks guys... I was relieved when I saw the water after I pulled the cover off. Especially with the warm winter/spring we had... I was envisoning much worse.

I was not so lucky.. If I didn't have concrete pool deck you wouldn't know I even had a pool... blended right in with my lawn. :lol: :lol:

Thanks... I'm in South Jersey (Washington Township). The safety fence is made by a company called Baby Guard (http://www.babyguardfence.com/pool-fence-products.php) and we love it. I have a two-year old son and if weren't for the fence, we'd have to hover over him the whole time we were outside and make sure he didn't go for an accidental swim. It's also good for keeping the dog off the safety cover :-D

No problem... We definitely love the fence although I have no idea how much it cost. My guess is it wasn't too expensive since its really just metal poles and some mesh. The one complaint I have is that I wish there was a gate. The way it works is every forth mesh section can be detached from the next, which is how you get in and out. They sell gates that basically take the place of one of the mesh sections.
