First ever Pool Test...and not the last!

Awesome Kim! I have been browsing these links/references the past few days, thanks for the heads up and links.

I have also been keeping testing logs for points of reference. I'm looking forward to learning how the pool reacts with different procedures and why?

I even put notes of the weather in the beginning to see how the pool reacted. Sun, light rain, heavy rain, windy, etc. It was very helpful for week end trips. I know what to do to have the pool clear when I came back.

Hi folks..new test results tonight.

Condition... Raining...60's

FC 3.0
CC 1.0
TC 4.0
CH 50
TA 190
CYA 80
PH 7.5
CL BR 3-6

I know we targeted FC-4 and CYA 80 prior to turning on the SWG.

Should I raise the FC to 4 and ate the other test results a concern/issue prior to moving forward from the "chlorine" pool?

I purchased 10 bags of Morton's Pool salt yesterday... That said, would it make sense to test the pool for salt prior to adding the 'new' salt?

Appreciate your input everyone... Getting closer with all your help.

Thanks so much

You should push the FC up and keep it while the rest of your pool gets dialed in.

I am not real up on SWG BUT have read that so long as the SWG is happy with the salt level you are good. BUT I would try to test for it. Do you have a salt tester?

Yes-i have the Salt Water testing kit.

I'll raise the FC level in the morning... Target of 4?

Time to start reading up on SWG levels.....best start with the manufacturer recommendations

Yes, good idea to test for salt. Most pools have 300 to 1000 ppm of salt in them. The Intellichlor has a pretty wide operating range so don't sweat it too much. Aim for 3500 but it will not report high salt until 4500 and even then it will still make chlorine.

Your TA is really high which will cause the PH to rise so keep a close eye on PH and when it gets to 7.9/8.0 lower it to 7.6 or 7.5. Adding acid to lower PH will also lower your TA slowly over time.

Be careful in the fall and the spring. As the water temp drops the salt level will be reported lower and lower. I shut mine off when the water gets to 70 and switch to bleach. Don't start adding salt when the water gets cold and it gives you a low salt error. Or else you will end up with your salt level over 5000 ppm! Oh, wait, that is what I did a few years ago! :)

Your numbers look good. Seems like you already read this but here it is again just in case, Pool School - Water Balance for SWGs

Thanks Pooldv!

First things first in the morning... Raise FC to 4 and perform a salt test.

On a side note-i did notice the Salt cell read no flow when the water temperature dropped this spring. Thanks for bringing this up!!! I most certainly would have continued to add salt.

Tomorrow is a big day!! Thanks

Hi Pooldv.....FC 7? Got a bit excited.... Sorry. Salt Test 200ppm.

Once is start adding salt, can the kids be in the pool?

Also, starting the SWG process... Just plug it in and add a bag of salt and brush like crazy

Kids can help spread and dissolve the salt and throw it up and swim through the clouds as it settles.
