First Ever Algae Growth (Brown)- Help needed

Hi all,

Just got home and checked the levels...TC is now 24.5 as opposed to 31 this morning.

Pool is Crystal Clear, though I did notice some brown spots/gathering of what appears to be dead algae...see photos

Should I continue with the SLAM process?

Appreciate your input

Brush the algae/debris and continue the SLAM. I would perform an overnight test to determine if you have passed. If you fail the test and the water is crystal clear in the a.m., allow your levels to drift down to under 10 and perform the overnight test again. At higher levels, testing error, even the smallest amount can create failure. Please keep us posted!

Will do...off to SLAM. Talk soon.

If green algae settled while performing the SLAM, then you are probably not done. If the algae was dead and not visible by the eye, then possibly you could pass the overnight test. I would probably let this go another 24 hours, then perform the overnight test in the a.m.. If you pass, you are done. If you fail by a small margin 1.5-2 p.m. at real high levels, then allow them to drift under 10 and perform again.

Will perform OCLT test in the morning. No more dead Algae the past two days. Crystal clear and levels dropped ever so slightly during the day...sun I'm assuming?

Will perform test now this evening and check OCLT test in the morning

OCLT test has been good overnight. Phew!

Shall i continue to leave the SWG off while the FC levels drop to a satisfactory level?...not long left now in the pool season anyhow up here in NE. I may just keep the chlorine levels as is and close the pool shortly.
