My pool is fairly well balanced for having just opened it! I just want to get it balanced best I can before we actually try to heat it and swim in it in 2-3 weeks. Here are my numbers...

FC = 4.5
pH = 7.8
TA = 250
CH = 300
CYA = 40
Temp = 50-55 (still cold at night in MN!)
Salt = Unknown as of yet, waiting for salt test kit.

I was told on another forum not to worry about the TA levels and in general, I never have. I was just wondering why I don't have to adjust TA? Is it because it's a vinyl pool?

Regarding the other measurements, I'm thinking my next steps should be to add a little acid to slightly lower pH, and adding stabilizer.

Sound like I'm on the right track?

Thanks.

TA effects pH stability and CSI. With a vinyl pool, CSI is not as important and your CH is low enough scale should not be an issue.

When your pH gets to 7.8 - 8, use muriatic acid to lower it to 7.4. Over time the TA will fall. Be sure you measure TA each time you are going to add acid as the current value is needed in Poolmath to determine how much acid to use.
