Hi all ,

I’ve had a 14” above ground bestway pool for just under a year - and I left it to stew over winter (here in cyprus we have a 3 month winter and then it’s back to warmer temperatures) due to the pool cover being shocking and keep blowing off.
When I started cleaning it was a green algae ridden swamp.
Then I began to do as best as I could.
A lot of people said to drain but it was already half drained and I didn’t want to ruin the lining.
So.i spent 3.5 hours vacuuming as much of the algae as I could.
I ran the filter for 4 days, backwashing every 8 hours until it began to clear.
I used algaecide- and let it work it’s magic for 24 hours.
And then tried to shock the pool using trichloro.
My big issue is- the Dang shock doesn’t dissolve and I’ve tried with pool water and hot water. Nada.
And as it’s such a small pool I only need 100g if that.
I’ve already shocked twice and I’m still finding the little larve in the water (mosquitoes)
How do I get the granule Chlorine to dissolve? As I’m continuously stirring whilst pouring so I don’t end up pouring big piles out.
Plus it brings it up .1 and I need it to 10 to really shock the pool but I can never get it to dissolve properly. What should I do?
And lastly my second question.
What the heck can I do to get rid of the fine brown dust. It never seems to go away no matter how often I vaccum.
Granted it’s one of the basic vacuum’s from bestway but just takes god Dang forever and I ain’t got time for it.

Bit of info- I’m using a basic filter from bestway which came with the pool so cannot use the waste function etc.
Just a hose and a vaccum.
I don’t know what else to do I’m going crazy.

Hopefully someone out there knows the answers to my stupid questions!

Thank you 😊

Welcome to TFP! So here are a few things to keep in mind:
- To kill/remove algae, we follow the SLAM Process. During that process, we use liquid chlorine or regular bleach as it is most efficient and easily applied as needed.
- Algaecides do not kill algae. In fact, if that was a copper-based algaecide, it added copper which can change the color of the water, cause staining to the liner, and make blonde hair look green.
- Proper (accurate) testing is very important. What test kit do you have? Here we recommend a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit. Not sure if that is an option for you there, but getting accurate FC and CYA results is important for the SLAM Process.

So if you added a lot of copper-based algaecide, I would consider another water exchange. It should be safe to change at least half the water, perhaps a little more without disturbing the liner. Then I would confirm the CYA and increase the FC to that CYA as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. Look for the SLAM elevated FC level and maintain it until you pass all 3 SLAM criteria. The SLAM Process works if you follow those instructions.

Hope that helps.
