Finally a pool- again

Pulled the trigger today on a pool package and am thrilled. Had a self installed 24 ft. Doughboy pool many years ago that we did the TFP route. We are 20 years older now and my husband is my kitchen contractor and cabinet builder this summer, so we are having this new pool installed. I have to learn things all over again now! So saltwater systems in an above ground pool are a whole new thing since my last pool. Is it worth it? I can add it, but did not order that today. Wanted to do research first. Some things do not change-such as makes and models of pools might as well be mattresses when you try to compare.

The pool I chose is 18 ft. round, 54” Resin frame with aluminum walls. 25 mil beaded liner, 2 hp pump, some hybrid type of filter that is out of my wheelhouse (had a giant sand filter before), package with all the covers and maintenance stuff, ladder steps that can pull up and lock, install included into a sloped yard. 7100.00 all in. I know I could do steel walls cheaper but prefer the aluminum with resin. Install hopefully May but probably June.

Congrats 🎉 that is a nice looking pool!
My pump is a carvin (aka-jacuzzi) & they were very easy to deal with when i needed a replacement under warranty. If u can - get the 2speed or variable speed pump so u can run it on low & reap the energy savings as well as cut down on noise.
If u go with a swg (which u won’t regret) be sure to get one that is rated for at least 2x’s your pool volume. So one that’s rated at least for 20k gallons & puts out at least 1# of chlorine /day.
Bigger is better as you don’t need to operate it as long to fulfill your chlorine needs so the cell will have a longer life. The upgrade really doesn’t cost as much as the extra life is worth. Average cell life is 10k hours.

Pool place may get 2 speed pumps before install date (only single speed in stock now), and if available I will definitely purchase.

I am torn with the idea of going to a swg after using bleach for so many years with very rare issues. I wonder if the pool place didn’t have them available since they didn’t try to sell me on it? Normally you get hard sell. lol

I'm trying to get the hubs to convert to SWG, we currently do salt for comfort, but can't get past the cost to install (our pool is slightly smaller, so LC doesn't kill us yet) :D I rarely hear any complaints, as long as someone has checked out what a SWG "actually" does and maintains good water parameters, I want one so bad!! I think chlorine costs are probably going to be manageable. I am attracted to the idea of the SWG ease once you get things dialed in. On the other hand, since my last pool was sold with my old house in 2007- I am certainly familiar with the old TFP methods before SWG and before pool math was an app I could have on my phone. 🤣

So while I learn the new pool and water regime, I hope to get back in the swing of things quickly. I can still have the SWG added since my installer hasn’t given us a day yet. It seems like I am spending so much on the pool- (had to spend 4k on tree work to make installing an AGP feasible) why not just take the plunge and get the SWG too and move forward?

Sounds like I am going to talk myself into it- doesn’t it?
