Filter valve 1.5" for 2" piping

Hi everyone,

I am in the market for a new sand filter since the old one has some leaky ports and is probably 15 years old.

My pool is approximately 16,000 gallons. The existing sand filter I inherited is a "Pantera II by Wicor", I believe 21".

My pool pump is 1hp.

All my piping is 2".

I was looking to get a 24" sand filter.

It seems like the majority of models sold at this size at 1.5" connections.

Is it a problem if I go that way?

The only 2" model was the Hayward S244T2C versus the S244T, which is their 1.5" model. It seems there is a premium for their 2" connection...

Any input much appreciated!

Yes, there is quite a premium for the 2" Hayward S244T2C but I'd get it and not worry that "maybe I should have got the 2" filter"!

Two connections that add slightly more head loss will be no big deal, if your worried, run the numbers to see the difference

Thanks guys. I'm starting to think that the majority of sand filter connections are 1.5 inches since the 2 inch piping adjusts nicely onto that...

If I were to want to "run the numbers", is there a good resource here on that calculation?

Have you lost your head sticky above

Just run it for 40' of 2" with a 2 to 1.5 bushing and then run it for 40' of 2" and you should see how little that bushing affects the head
