Filter psi is still high after thorough cleaning of filter

Hello! this is our second year with a intex xtr pool, its 18' round and 52" deep, anyways , first year went great, filter had no problems, but this year we cant seem to fix the psi problem our pool has, it has a constant high psi rating ( the gauge has green, yellow and red readings, ours is always on the verge of the green and yellow reading ) , I will list all steps we had taken to try and fix this problem.

1st we did the obvious and turned it off , flipped the valve to "backwash", and let it run for a 30 seconds, followed by flipping the valve to " rinse ", this did absolutely nothing for the pressure reading. so we did is again for a minute. this time the pressure went down a slight bit, but when putting the valve back to "filter" within 30 seconds the pressure reading went right back to yellow,

2nd we went to a pool store and they told us it was simply a dirty sand problem, so we bought new sand, upon opening the filter and checking the sand it did seem reasonably dirty / stained, so we took out the sand and found another issue, the center pipe that connects to the valve and allows water to flow cleanly through the filter had huge cracks, so we got replacement parts and added the new sand with our new pipe ( I don't know what some parts are properly called ) upon doing this and turning the filter on , the psi was not changing , still in the yellow, so i did more cleaning

3. took the valve head off the and thoroughly cleaned it all , there was a lot of some small dirt / plant matter, so we basically cleansed EVERYTHING possible inside and out the filter. this made the psi go down 10, next hour, back to yellow. :(

these are our parameters, ( yes they are terrible , we are fixing all of these problems right now )

free chlorine : 0.1
total chlorine : 0.1
ph : 7.6
alkalinity : 58ppm
calcium hardness : 66ppm
cyanuric acid : 7ppm
iron : 0.1ppm
copper : 1.7ppm
phosphates : 95ppb
TDS: 200ppm

the water was also cloudy but has since cleared up .

is there anything else that could be causing high pressure ratings? I don't think the gauge is broken since it still moves and goes to 0 when the filter is off.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Nick and Welcome !!!!
is there anything else that could be causing high pressure ratings?
Algae. You're spinning your wheels with the sand filter while the chlorine is terribly low.

You need a reliable test kit. The pool store leaves you right about where you're at.

Test Kits Compared

this made the psi go down 10, next hour, back to yellow
This is a pretty good indication of algae. When you clean the filter pressure normalizes. As it begins filtering out the algae, pressure increases.

Be careful with pool store clarifiers and flocculants. They can quickly clog sand filters.

Get your test kit and post some test results. We should be able to walk you through a successful SLAM Process. When comparing test kits, make sure you compare the size of the reagents. The test kits at TFtestkits.net provide the best value for the backyard pool owner.

so fix all the parameters and it should fix the pressure rating?
Yes. Quick filter cycles are almost always a chemical problem, not a mechanical problem. When it's mechanical it doesn't swing or get temporarily better with a backwash.

they gave me a bunch of chemicals and they said it would fix all the problems listed lol. im gonna try it anyways, the pool store near me gives free tests, they put it in a machine that spins it around and prints the results, i dont know if that helps lol

I hope your joking...unless they hypnotized you with that spinning thing.

so the pool store gave us shock, metal remover , and other stuff to fix all the parameters, it says i have to wait a while before adding other chemicals, like some are 4 hours in between one is a solid week. do i have to wait or can i get away with adding them all in a day

Read...start with the basics: Pool Care Basics

Order test kit.

Add only 5 ppm of liquid chlorine daily until your test kit arrives. PoolMath will help you with the calculation.

Hang on to the chemicals you have. You may need them in the future.

Lots of help here, but gotta trust us.

got it, so that test kit should give me more reliable results ? so get it and come back with results and go from there?

Exactly that. I broke down the details of the 4 kits in the link below. They're all Taylor drops but Tf test kits whoops Taylor at both price points.
