Hello! this is our second year with a intex xtr pool, its 18' round and 52" deep, anyways , first year went great, filter had no problems, but this year we cant seem to fix the psi problem our pool has, it has a constant high psi rating ( the gauge has green, yellow and red readings, ours is always on the verge of the green and yellow reading ) , I will list all steps we had taken to try and fix this problem.
1st we did the obvious and turned it off , flipped the valve to "backwash", and let it run for a 30 seconds, followed by flipping the valve to " rinse ", this did absolutely nothing for the pressure reading. so we did is again for a minute. this time the pressure went down a slight bit, but when putting the valve back to "filter" within 30 seconds the pressure reading went right back to yellow,
2nd we went to a pool store and they told us it was simply a dirty sand problem, so we bought new sand, upon opening the filter and checking the sand it did seem reasonably dirty / stained, so we took out the sand and found another issue, the center pipe that connects to the valve and allows water to flow cleanly through the filter had huge cracks, so we got replacement parts and added the new sand with our new pipe ( I don't know what some parts are properly called ) upon doing this and turning the filter on , the psi was not changing , still in the yellow, so i did more cleaning
3. took the valve head off the and thoroughly cleaned it all , there was a lot of some small dirt / plant matter, so we basically cleansed EVERYTHING possible inside and out the filter. this made the psi go down 10, next hour, back to yellow.
these are our parameters, ( yes they are terrible , we are fixing all of these problems right now )
free chlorine : 0.1
total chlorine : 0.1
ph : 7.6
alkalinity : 58ppm
calcium hardness : 66ppm
cyanuric acid : 7ppm
iron : 0.1ppm
copper : 1.7ppm
phosphates : 95ppb
TDS: 200ppm
the water was also cloudy but has since cleared up .
is there anything else that could be causing high pressure ratings? I don't think the gauge is broken since it still moves and goes to 0 when the filter is off.
any help would be greatly appreciated!
