I went to backwash my salt water pool filter and noticed the pressure gauge was reading @50. Not really sure what to do. It is always at 10psi. It has been about three weeks since last backwash. When I backwashed the water was clear. Water temp is around 46. I do not plan to winterize the pool because we live on Middle Ga., SC line.

Was this during the act of backwashing?

What is the filter pressure in normal filter mode?

Does the gauge go to zero when the pump is off?

Before backwashing in normal mode. I failed to look when it was off, but will do that today after work.

I filled my sig out but it does not show.....

A a Bourdon tube pressure gauge has a hollow tube that fills with water and it expands as the pressure increases.

If the water freezes, the tube is bent out of shape and it causes the pressure reading to be higher than actual.

The tube is thin and made of copper.

Copper is a good thermal conductor, so the heat transfers quickly and the water in the tube will freeze faster than most other water in the system.

Pressure Gauge

A cut-away diagram of a Bourdon tube pressure gauge is shown opposite.

The Bourdon tube is a hollow metal tube curved in an arc.

One end is open to the pressure to be measured and the other end is sealed.

This free end is coupled to a mechanical linkage that rotates the gauge pointer as the pressure in the tube changes its radius of curvature.

The gauge measures the pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the Bourdon tube and atmospheric pressure must be added to the gauge pressure to obtain the absolute pressure of the gas or fluid in the gauge.
