Hi everyone. I have a 20 gallon salt water pool with Hayward tristastar vs 90 and tcells325 swg Hayward swimclear c4030 cartridge filters. Since I had my pool guy clean out my filters the psi are reading zero. The gauge rises when the pump is priming to 25 then drops to zero. Skimmer baskets are all clear. Good flow into the pump and outflow looks good. We also have an attached swim jet but that’s on its own pump and flowing well. I have an attached gas heater as well. I live in Charleston SC.

Anything I need to do?

Chemical readings are good and water is clear
FC 7
TC 0
Borate 70
pH 7.4
TA 70
CH 400
Salt 3800
CYA 80

A,

Sounds normal and just how your system should work...

Low RPM on the pump, and a larger cartridge filter, equals almost no filter pressure..

Filter pressure is actually a reading of how hard it is to push water through the filter.. As long as flow back to the pool feels good, then low filter PSI is always better.

I replaced the 60 lb. gauge on my filter and my pressure, at 1200 RPM, is about 1 lb. or less.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks so much Jim!! I’m glad it all looks good. I was concerned as after pool opening after pool being built in March of last year and until filter cleaning it had stayed around 18.

Also, swg question. I have it on only 15% at pump times from 8am-2pm and 10am-6am at above setting and it is still staying at 6-8 with pool in full sunlight through out the whole day and no other chlorine added. Just surprised it’s able to keep up with expected losses especially as 20k gallon pool and swg is meant for 25k gallon and not 2x size as recommended here. Any thoughts on this! Don’t really have any trees around. Have frogs and otherwise small amounts of debris that lawn care guy or what gets blown in by the wind.

Also should I try decreasing the percentage and changing the pump yo 24 hours circulation to extend swg life span.

Thanks again,
Anand

A,

Knowing your FC without knowing your CYA is just about worthless.. :poke:

You have to know both, before you can decide if your FC is too high or too low.

See the saltwater section of this chart...

FC/CYA Levels

Never mind... I see your CYA is 80, which makes your FC not high at all.... If anything is is low.. Your FC target is 6 - 11 ppm... You really want your FC to stay at 6 or above at all times..

I personally run 24/7, mostly at 1200 rpm, because I like to make a little chlorine all the time, and I like to skim all the time.. I also like the look of my pool when there is a little motion to the water... It is not a requirement, just something I like to do.. I also believe, without any way to prove it, that pumps last longer running 24/7 than they do when you turn them on and off each day.

Your 36% is about 1250 RPM.. (A guess).. I have to assume that when your filter was measuring 18 PSI, the pump was running a lot faster than 36%.. Most likely 80 to 100%.

Thanks,

Jim R.
