I have 3 questions:

1. When do you know it's time to get a new cartridge?
2. After pool re-plaster start up will a new one be a good idea?
3. I've read a lot about one brand being better than another -- should I stick with Hayward brand or equal ok?

Thanks.

Hello, Welcome.

1. You should get a new cartridge when after you wash/clean the filter the psi doesn't go down to an acceptable level (within a couple PSI from when it was new), bands are broken, or holes in filter material.

2. Sure, you can get after the replaster, after the dust has settled, and water is clear.

3. I've had good luck with aftermarket filters. Pleatco and Unicel has treated me well. I think they use 4 oz. Reemay filter material. If there is nothing wrong with the housing, just get an new filter.
