FILL WATER???

Hi guys/gals,
My SWG is needing to be cleaned monthly at this point. I’ve been slacking on the acid but was still shocked at how fast it’s scaling up. I tested my fill water and was floored. The TA is 300 and the PH is 8.2!! What the heck can I do with that?

I don't think I've heard of anyone in our area who gets their water from the Edwards aquifer with a TA that high. What is your pool TA result? By any chance are you testing with new reagent bottles? I wonder if the drops are coming out too small.

Post a full set of current test results from your TF-100.
How are you testing salt content?

FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA
Salt
Water temperarure

Fill water ph 8.2 and TA 300.
What's the fill water CH?

If the R-0009 TA reagent is newer, try wiping the tip of the bottle with a damp paper towel between each drop.
When new, there can be a static charge buildup which causes the drops to "jump" off the tip before they are fully formed, resulting in smaller than normal drops. This usually goes away after a few tests.

Here are my results before making any adjustments.
FC- 6
CC- 0
PH- 8.2
TA- 150 (I failed to wipe the tip of the bottle yesterday)
CH- 300
CYA- 40 (too low)
salt- 3600
water temp- 88.8

What’s the recommendation?
(I think I remember reading to keep the ph between 7.2-7.5 to bring down the TA)

In the off-season, late Oct till May 1st or so, my pool water TA creeps up closer to the fill water TA 140. During the swim season, managing pH in the 7s the TA drops to 90 - 100. Keeping CSI -0.3 to +0.1 keeps the scale off the Pentair IC60 plates. My suggestion would be to manage your pH closer to TFP recommendations.
