Has anyone turned up a source for the original or a new version of the perimeter fiber optics for Pentair Fiberstars system? I do repairs and restoration of the head units yet have not been able to unearth a source for the fiber optic cable.

I've been looking for an alternative off and on the last few years with no luck.

The previous owners of my pool got rid of the light wheel but left the UltraGlow cable in the channel in the pool. A couple of times I thought I had found an LED cab;e option that would work, but never pulled the trigger on buying anything because I always started doubting that the lights were really safe for water use.

I would love to find a new, inexpensive LED light source so I could use the existing cable, but I haven't spent any time on that yet. I also don't know what the ends of my fiber cable looks like because I haven't taken the time to dig it up from where it was buried by those crazy previous owners.

Good luck with your search!

If you still have the light, I can repair it and make it work for you.
Thanks, but unfortunately the only thing left is the cable and the outlet where it used to be plugged in.

I guess I need to spend the time and dig up the cable and see what shape it's in.

I thinks it's really strange that no one has made a LED replacement for the FiberStar system.

Here's an interesting link right here in TFP

Hi Ed, I've been talking with Todd at Fiber Optic Products in Utah (435-472-4205) for help on refurbishing my pool's Fiberstars installation. I have two Generators: 1) for the pool underwater lights using end-glow cables and 2) for the accent lighting using both end-glow and perimeter cables.

They don't have a direct replacement for my waterfall perimeter/side-glow cable, but it's close. I think their only available perimeter-fiber mounting track is designed to accomodate 0.5" cable, which is a bit bigger than my original 9mm cable, but looks like it would work in my case. Todd told me their website is a bit dated in a few places and suggested I just call him with my questions. He was very helpful when I talked with him.

Another possible source - who I have not yet contacted - is Impact Lighting. I submitted a request with their website ChatBot to contact me, but I haven't heard from them yet. Their website shows a few types of side-glow and end-glow cables.

I have a couple Fiberstar questions I'd like to trouble you with:
  • I need to do a thorough clean on my two Photon Generator units to evict the spiders and make sure everything still works. In the past, I've just used an air compressor to annually blow-out the insides, but it's gotten grody over 27 years and is time for a complete disassembly and tune-up in the shop. From looking at the installation manual, it appears that I can loosen the screws that hold the "ferrule" that secures the cable ends in the cabinet, disconnect the power and then remove the cabinet to take into the shop. I would protect the exposed cables. Does that jive with your experience? If I run into trouble, I might take you up on your repair offer.
  • Fiber optic products sells some inexpensive polishing cloths for ends of the cables. Is this what you've been using to restore the surface of the cables inside the light generators?
Thx!
