Only my second season with my pool and hoping for an extra set of eyes on my pool test numbers and some reassurance to make sure I’m good.

Had a party yesterday and added some liquid pool shock overnight. Cleaned cartridge filters this morning and tested using Taylor test kit. Here are my results:

FC: 4.2 (usually in the 3 range with SWG)
CC: 0
Ph: 7.6
TA: 60
Cya: 50 (still haven’t mastered reading this test so could be 40 or 60)
CH: 300
Salt: 2800
Temp: 84
CSI: -.34

Still unsure of the CYA/FC connection. Have looked at the chart and try to keep a CYA of 60 and FC at 3.0 using my SWG and then adding some liquid shock after heavy rains and parties.

Anything I’m doing wrong or should fix?
Thanks for the feedback!

It is far easier to have the SWCG maintain the FC in the target level. See FC/CYA Levels

I would try to keep CYA near 60 or 70 ppm during swim season.

I personally aim for the top end of the FC range for this time of year. Heat and bather load with all the swimming can vary a lot and 8-9 would give you a buffer.

I’d also bring CYA up to 70-80. Do it slowly and make sure you have the test down, only way to reduce CYA is draining.

FC: 4.2 (usually in the 3 range with SWG)
Your FC is a bit too low for your CYA. Follow the FC/CYA chart and stay away from the minimum. Aim for FC at or above target at all times. Also, use the 10 ml sample so each drop is 0.5 FC. Saves time and reagents.

Thanks for the responses. It looks like I need to bring my FC way up. I already have my Jandy Truclear SWG set to 70% and run it for 11 hours and it’s hard at times to keep FC at 3 (that’s why I supplement with liquid shock l) If I bring my CYA up to 70 will that help increase my FC levels or do I have to increase run time/SWG percentage? I feel like 70% is already pretty high. I should note that we get full sun on the pool pretty much all day and I don’t work over the summer (#teacherlife) so we use the pool frequently.

With your volume pool and a TruClear you need to run the SWCG more hours per day.
At your current setting, you are only creating 1.9 ppm FC per day.

I use pool math all the time. How did I miss that?! Thanks. I’ll increase the run time to 16 hours which should bring the FC output to 2.9 ppm a day and see what happens.

I’ll report back…
