Now that it appears like TFP has the bulk of the migration behind us I’ve slowly been turning towards some additional upgrades I’ve been wanting to do. As I was flipping through some options the new software has I came across some features for websites to use to generate funds. There’s options to replace certain words with links to websites, options to use amazon affiliate links, options to create paywalls, and so forth. It brought me pleasure knowing I could skip all of these features thanks to our supporters! It’s so easy to forget the cost associated with running a website
Over the last year or so we put a hurting on TFP’s bank balance performing the updates you see today. Before we started any of these updates we recognized our limitations and knew it was in the best interest of our users to hire some professional support. While I’m very biased, I think it was money well spent as they did an amazing job. Now that the conversion is mostly completed I need to return some focus on funding the website and preparing for TFP’s future. I ask that you please consider Supporting TFP as these donations allow us to continue to offer the website free of advertising.
So what expenses does TFP currently have anyways? Just what is all this money being put towards?? Currently TFP’s largest expense is the servers themselves and the support needed to maintain them. TFP’s forums themselves only use one server however we also have one used for email campaigns, two for the PoolMath App, and one for backup’s. The forum’s server itself is watched by a staff who supports us with technical issues and optimizes things to make sure everything is stable and running well. This contractor is one of the more well known developer for the forums software so I’m confident that we’re in good hands. One of the next largest expenses TFP see’s yearly is the cost associated with improving ourselves. Your donations have allowed TFP to go out and contract a professional UX/UI designer to create the looks and feel of both the PoolMath App plus the website itself. This contractor handed us over the Photoshop files where we then had to hire another contractor to code the files and convert things over to a working website. All these steps were not cheap but they clearly were well overdue. The site was starting to look dated and needed the refresh. In the future I would LOVE to start dabbling in additional methods of teaching such as videos and a printed book but all those will come at a later date. Lastly TFP has some odds and ends we use to run the company. Items such as paying for Accuweather for weather tracking on the App, subscribing to Office 365 to give us some tools we use to communicate and manage the business, paying Apple yearly for our developers license for the App, and so forth. These fees aren’t nearly as expensive as the other items such as servers but they’re items we must spend.
As you can see there’s a good bit that goes into paying for a site. In the end, YOUR donations help fund TFP so we can continue to focus on YOU! We never wish for our advice to be compromised by having to appease some advertiser, and your donations make that happen. Thank you!
