Hi, I am looking for some help on updating my equipment pad plumbing. I will be adding a Hayward 400k heater, 8 deck jets and 2 waterfall lines. Last summer before installing the paver patio, I ran home runs for all the deck jets using 1" pvc and two 2" waterfall lines to feed one 3' or 4' sheer descent and the second feeding two 2' or 3' sheer descents. If i need to add a second pump later on I will but for now I'm planning on staying with just 1 pump. My Hayward Superpump XE 2.25hp is currently feeding 8 returns, when using the water features I can reduce or eliminate flow to the returns. I drew out how to plumb in the heater and water features and want to know if I'm overcomplicating it. I'd like to be able to control the 2 sides of deck jets individually so I have 2 manifolds of 4 each. Each deckjet homerun will have a praher 1" ball valve to adjust the flow so they are all even. If there is a better way to go about this please let me know. I will add some pics to see the current setup, and what I am planning to do. Thank you!

Only advice would be to stay away from plastic ball valves. They tend to go bad and stick when you least expect. Some people have ok luck with them though. The rebuildable valves tend to do better and you can replace the seals when the get old without cutting them out. Would also recommend a larger pump. 2.25 rated HP is probably less than 2 real HP.

I agree with @Bperry There are two types of Praher valves.

And this:

The second is preferable, as it is replaceable without re-plumbing. I would still go with diverters (Jandy, Hayward, Pentair or CMP) before using ball valves.

On the pump side, there is NO QUESTION, I would replace the pump with a high head VSP, if you want to stay with 1 pump. Your Hayward Superpump XE 2.25hp is going to be expensive to run. Getting a VSP has a very short payback period. A high head VSP will also give you better service for your waterfall and sheer descents.

Your current pump can be run 115v or 230v. You don't note the service you have to the pump...do you know if it is 115v or 230v?

If you are wedded to Hayward...the Tristar 900 VSP is a great pump and can be run 115v or 230v.

The 950 can also be run 115v or 230v.

The point of a VSP vs. single speed is electrical savings. The point of a high head pump is that you can run low and slow for daily maintenance, but have the head room to run your waterfall and sheer descents when necessary.

I will be adding a Hayward 400k heater
Install a heater bypass. You'll need a 3-way diverter and a check valve.

Each deckjet homerun will have a praher 1" ball valve
No ball valves. Only use high quality diverters (Jandy Never Lube or Pentair).

Consider adding a 3-way diverter between the pump and filter to enable vacuuming to waste or quickly pumping water out of the pool.
