Thought it might be encouraging to newcomers for me to post my grateful thanks to all the pros here at TFP. I just finished my second season enjoying our new gunite SWG pool, but it was only midway through this summer that I really came to understand the relationships between the crucial chemistry readings in my Test Kit. It takes a little time, but if an English major like me can do it, anyone can! I even got through my first algae bloom with the recommended SLAM technique.

For me the key step was getting bold enough with the Stabilizer to get that CYA reading up to the TFP-recommended 70-80 range rather than leaving it down the 30-50 range recommended by my local pool store -- and then and getting comfortable with my chlorine levels maintaining up around 8-10 rather than way down around 1-3 per the pool store.

The increased stability of the chemistry has been profound. While before I was ping-ponging back and forth adding shock and acid on a nearly bi-weekly basis, I hardly had to add *anything* in the second half of this summer / fall -- what a savings in both money and nuisance!

Alas, we close up this week for the long winter -- see you in the spring!
