So we had a large rain storm (for California) over the weekend and the empty buckets in my driveway now have more than 6” of water in them.
I spent a good portion of yesterday pumping out the pool through a garden hose connected to my pressure side pool sweep fitting. For several hours it was raining hard enough that the pumping was just keeping up with rain.
Here are the before and after storm test numbers.
Before storm on Friday
FC - 5.0 (added 2.0 ppm CL on Friday to bring to 7.0 ppm)
CC - 0.0
PH -7.5
CYA - 30
TA - 80
CH - 350
Salt - 2400
CSI = -0.24
And Today’s numbers:
FC - 4.0. (expected 5.0 ppm based on daily CL consumption)
CC - 0.0
PH - 7.6
CYA - < 30 (not measurable)
TA - 60
CH - 300
Salt - 2000
CSI = -0.34
With one big storm the pool got a nice 20% water exchange! It’s nice to see that all the measurements (FC, TA, CH, and salt) all dropped by roughly the same 20% or so. I know that the salt level isn’t too important (as this is a liquid CL pool) but it was starting to creep up a bit. A nice water dilution always helps.
Just need to bring the Calcium Hardness up a little bit and add in some CYA to get back to ideal levels. And as usual the water is still TFP clear.
The story here is that a lot of clean rainwater really doesn’t mess up the water balance other than a bit of dilution.
