EasyTouch freeze mode

A question for those EasyTouch programming gurus out there:



I have an EasyTouch 8, driving an Intelliflo VS for pool and spa, an Intelliflo VS for the spa jets, and a single speed Superflo for the infloor cleaner. Freeze mode is enabled for all three circuits, and works swimmingly, so to speak.



However, in freeze mode, I would like to kick the RPMs on the VS pumps down from the 2500-3000 they usually run at, to something more reasonable (and cheaper to operate) to run, like 1200 RPM.



Is it possible to create additional circuits for the pool/spa and jet pumps specifically for freeze mode, such as:

1. Disable freeze mode on pool/spa and Jets circuits
2. Create “pool2” and “jets2” circuit, enable freeze mode
3. Do not create any schedules for the pool2 or jets2 circuits
4. In pump #1 menu, add the pool2 circuit, set RPM to 1200. This should run the pump at 1200 rpm in freeze mode
5. In pump #2 menu, add the jets2 circuit, set RPM at 1200 rpm. This should run the pump at 1200 rpm in freeze mode

Do you think this is possible, and would work? Any negative implications I should be concerned about?

On the pump's speed setup page, you can select the "Freeze" circuit and assign a speed to that circuit.

The problem is that the pump will run at the fastest speed it sees. So if the pump is running at 2400 RPM, and freeze control kicks in, the pump will not slow down. If the pump is not running or running at a lower RPM when freeze control kicks in, the pump will run at your freeze speed.

Why do you "normally" run at 2400 to 3000 RPM???

Ok thanks. I didn’t know you can set up freeze mode rpm separately.

I run the filter at 2500 as that appears to move water through the skimmer and drain adequately. Perhaps I can run that slower. I run the jets at 3000 because below that, the therapy Jets don’t function well. When using the spa, I generally don’t turn on the blower, because that creates too much turbulence. We like the fairly mellow bubbles ;-) Once again, I can experiment with that.

During winter, I flipped the schedule to run only at night, because it didn’t make sense to run during the day, and then have freeze mode run things again at night. With this new scheme., I could revert to day running again and let the freeze mode handle things at low rpm when it needs to at night. And thus take advantage once again of our solar electric generation system. Winters are mild here, average temps are above 40 in days, and stays above freezing usually, but not always, at night.

Running the Spa at 3K makes sense.

You don't really need to "see" a lot of skimmer action for them to work well.

I run my IntelliFlo at about 1200 RPM, most of the time and my skimmers work just fine. I do not have a heater, if I did, I'd have to run at 1500 or so.

I'd drop your pool speed down to 2000 and see if you can even tell a difference in how your pool works. If not, I'd try 1800 etc.

Of course, it is your pool, and you can run it any way you want. Whatever works for you works for me.
