My builder quoted me $2,400 for the EasyTouch and $400 for SL. Looking online the ET cost seems very high.

So, my question is how difficult is this to install myself? Is there anything I need to make sure is completed during the build so I can easily add it later? Also, I'm assuming I would not have a warranty by installing it myself. Would that also impact warranties on my pump, filter, etc? I don't want to create an even bigger expense in the future.

I wasn't sure which board to put this on so feel free to move.

3M,

Hard to say as there are many different models of the EasyTouch all with different pricing... would need to know specifics to compare..

Installing an EasyTouch is pretty simple but the time to install one is when the pool is being built as it makes for a smoother install.

For instance... if the pool light is wired to a normal switch can you then rewire it to be controlled by the ET without having to dig up your new deck?

I see you are going with a IC40 SWCG... Did the plumber allow adequate room to install the cell?

Without the ET in place your pool builder will need to install some type of breaker panel at the equipment pad plus a timer of some sort.. How neatly can your remove the electrical panel and then install the ET. Most likely would need to leave the original breaker panel and then install the ET.. One of the great things about the ET is the fact that it is an all in one breaker panel and pool controller and SWCG power supply all rolled into one.

My advice is to talk with your Pool Builder about the cost of the ET and see if he would be willing to come down some. Doing it yourself might save you a few bucks, be in the long run I think you will be happier having it installed as the pool is being built and knowing you have the Pool Builder to stand behind the 3 year warranty..

The actual % of the total pool cost for automation is not that great, and I can tell you the little extra in costs will soon be forgotten as you get spoiled by using it... :p

If you go with the ET, make sure you get the IntelliFlo pump which is designed to be controlled by the ET, and not the SuperFlo which is not...

Thanks,

Jim R.
