Easy Touch setting with Whisperflo VST

I have upgraded a Compool to the Easy Touch so I can save money on electricity with a variable speed pump. I have the Pentair Whisperflo VST. When initially setting up the Easy Touch for the pump, there was no choice for VST. There was a choice for VS and for VSF. Which one am I supposed to use? The reason I am asking is it is working with VS but I noticed that Screenlogic shows the RPM but lists "--" for flow rate? If I change the setting to VSF, will it show the flow rate? Will it even work with the VSF setting?

jm,

The VST is a VS pump, so you would use VS..

95% of pool owners never even need to know what the flow is..

Why do you think it is important???

Basically, you just adjust the RPM until the pump does what you want.

I have my Easy Touch controller set to run the pump from 6 am to 4 pm. The pump turns on and off when it is supposed to. However, the two times I shut the power off to the system to make some wiring changes, when I repower it, I have to push the pool button to turn on the pump even if it is between the hours it is programmed to run. That is fine. But, I have also noticed that it does not turn off automatically at 4 pm when I do that. I have to push the pool button to turn it off manually.

Is this normal? If I did not turn it off and it ran all night, would it turn off the next day at 4 pm?

Jm,

It really depends on when you do it...

If the pump is running and you manually shut it off, it may or may not restart when you recycle power.

If the system is running and the power goes away, it should start back up on its own, but it might take several minutes..

It is easy to confuse the EasyTouch by screwing with the "F" button. If you want to stop the pump, you should go into the Service mode.

When you screw with the "F" button the EasyTouch thinks you want to manually control things.. So if you manually start the pump, it will run until the egg-timer times out.. The default is 12 hours...

The system is made to run using schedules.

It does not always get confused, but it happens often enough to be a pain in the rear.

I have three pools and three EasyTouch systems.. I have never used the "F" button unless I was trying to duplicate some issue for someone.

Next time you want to power down, go into the Service mode and them shut off power. It should come back up in the Service mode. Then put the system into auto and things should work.. Another option is once you reapply power push the reset button the front panel.. Just like rebooting your PC.

It might take several minutes for it to come back up all the way... It is old an obsolete, like me, and needs a little help getting going...

Thanks,

Jim R.
