Hi dirk. Wow awesome info here!! I’m scratching the sub-panel install and seriously considering the ET/8 with screen logic?? Not sure about the screen logic. So I have a question. I have a Hayward variable speed pump and a Hayward heater should I buy a Hayward filter instead of the pentair 64 sq ft cartridge filter. I ask this because I want to slowly incorporate automation and read that communication is smoother if pump, heater and filter are all the same brand?? What’s your thought

MOD note: I have moved this to it's own thread. Kim

C,

The number one rule in Automation is not to mix brands, when it comes to the Controller(Automation), any VS pumps, and any Salt cells.. They all need to be the same brand so that they can talk together.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Re: Easy Touch selection help

^^^^ What he said! ^^^^ ;)

What Jim implied but didn't spell out: most heaters can be turned on and off with most controllers. Brand of filter doesn't come into play when considering automation.

Caupsguy: I believe Hayward has automation solutions, perhaps phone app solutions as well. I wouldn't know, but they're pretty competitive with Pentair, so if you're not planning to change out your pump, have a look around their website.

Eword: Pentair is a well-respected brand when it comes to everything pool. I wouldn't try to talk you out of Pentair. (Caupsguy already has a headstart with his Hayward gear, which is the only reason I mentioned it.)

Re: Easy Touch selection help

Awesome. Thank u dirk So I’m good for automation then with my Hayward vs pump and Hayward heater even though my filter is pentair. This was pointed out by Jim and I’m thinking of pulling the trigger and ordering the Pentair Easy Touch Control Control System with IC40 Chlorine Generator 520593

Item #: 520593

$1,149.95

what r your thoughts ......... would u also get the screen logic

What type of wiring would i need to run from house main panel to NEW ET/8

If I had a 30 amp line coming from the house main that is using less than 5 amps for sensor lights could I splice into that line with a junction box to my new ET/8 and maybe screen logic?

Not directed at OP... for Caupsguy....

Your Hayward VS pump isn't going to be easily controlled by a Pentair Easytouch controller. May be best to stick with Hayward automation and SWG - or change the pump to a Pentair VS if using Pentair Easy Touch and IC40.

Re: Easy Touch selection help

Causpguy,

Where’d I lose ya? I was dittoing Jim, about how pump and SWG and controller all need to be the same brand, and that because you have a Hayward pump, you should probably be shopping for a Hayward controller.... That would also probably integrate well with your heater. Filters don’t interface with automation, so if you want a Pentair filter, or any brand filter, that is a non-issue when it comes to deciding on automation.

If you go with Pentair, you’d have to switch to a Pentair pump as well. Your Hayward heater would likely be controllable by a Pentair controller, but most likely only on and off. It’s possible a Hayward controller might give you some additional niceties, like thermostat control. But I wouldn’t know, I was pointing you to Hayward’s website so you could better understand what Hayward automation offers in that regard...

Anywho... the OP is going all Pentair, so this conversation might be better in your own thread.

Re: Easy Touch selection help

It’s been a long day on my end. Looking back you were clear....man you guys are really good about answering questions you have already answered and being kind about it—dang newbies like me!! Have A good night. I’m gonna start looking around for a Hayward controller comparable to ET/8.

Re: Easy Touch selection help

Hey, no worries, I'm a newbie, too, and I'm just trying to pay forward the patience and kindness I've been given here. The TFP Experts really are amazing, in their knowledge and their willingness to share it...
