Dry ice in the pool.....

The only thing I've noticed is that dry ice tends to sink to the bottom. It bothers me to have a very cold chunk of dry ice sitting on the plaster where it will locally cool the spot. I'd be worried about creating small hairline cracks from the thermal expansion differences.
A recent post about using a chiller led made me wonder if dry ice would cool the pool for special events. I knew someone who would drop it in the pool for special effects. Your mentioning the possibility of a crack occurring in the plaster may be enough of a reason for me not to consider letting it sink to the bottom.
