I have an i ground pool that I am unable to take care of. I cannot afford a pool person. It is currently been about 3 months since I have been able to use my robotic cleaner. The water is way down and green and I am thinking of draining it since it is rarely used the last couple of years. I don't know if that's the right thing or how to do it. Any suggestions on cost or alternatives?

Welcome to TFP.

Are you in Tucson AZ? Your location matters as a drained plaster pool will not stay in god condition for long.

What is your long term plan for the hole in the ground you have?

Do you care how the hole in the ground can affect your home value someday?

Yes I am in Tucson. Since it's not really been utilized much, can no longer afford pool guy and always had issues with kreepy, robotic can't keep up with the dirt, have thought about just getting rid of it. Currently on very limited income is not helping

Is there any flooding where you are? Summer monsoons can sometimes inundate areas that normally appear dry and bare. As long as you’re not in a flood plane, the risk of a pool popping out of the ground is pretty low.

You can drain it but you are responsible for making sure the area is safe. That means covering the pool and putting up safety fencing if none is there. If you don’t cover it, sporadic rains will fill it and it will turn into a frog and mosquito haven. If you live in the city limits or out in the county with neighbors, they can complain about empty pools being a nuisance and you’ll get a visit from the constable/public safety officer about it.
