Drainage with 3' graded hill on one side of AGP?

Help me TFP, you're my only hope!

We recently replaced a 24' round with a 33x18 oval. To do this, the installers had to excavate down around 3-ish feet to get level for installation (we'll ignore the wisdom of doing this. Simply replacing the 24' would've been, now we see, far easier).

We have clay soil with lots of rocks, and when we had some heavy rains we noticed the water just ponds around 3 sides of the pool (where its dug into the hillside).

What are my options here? Do the work to put in a french drain? Would simply grading the soil and adding some rock do the trick, trying to guide the water down to the slope on the 4th side?

Attached are pictures. Thanks for any help!

French drain all of the way. If you don't you risk the water seeping down the side of the pool so holding water dirt against the pool wall increasing the danger of rust OR it will channel and start to wash out the sand/dirt from under the pool :(
