Drain Sand Filter

Hello,

How long does it take for the Sand Filter to completely drain of water after winterization? Drain plug/cap on filter is off/open but I'm getting a little drip (like 1 drip every 20 seconds). I assume there is still some water in the sand itself that is working it's way down to the bottom drain . No other water or drips anywhere else Pool was winterized 2 days ago. New pool owner so sorry if this is a basic question. :)

Thank you, Sean

It takes however long it takes - probably not what you wanted to hear.
Why does it matter? Are you concerned that water is still coming from the pool? If so you can completely isolate the filter to rule that out.
Replace the plug in a few days. Or not, up to you.

I gotcha...yeah, I'm probably just overthinking it...but since this is the first pool closing of our new pool (done by the pool company) just want to make sure I wasn't missing anything obvious. There is no water in the pump and so I'm thinking there would be no way for the more water to get to the sand filter. Thanks for your help!

Its wet sand. I imagine it would drip for quite some time once the big woosh was over. Ice mostly expands up and not out so even if you closed up the filter with nominal water in there, it wouldn't be an issue. Especially with the sand to stop it from being a solid ice cube at the bottom.

But I'm also extra, so I'd let mine drip for a few days so I slept better about it. :ROFLMAO:
