Hi all!

As some of you know, I own a dog daycare and boarding business out of my home. I am currently looking at properties to move this business out of my home. I plan to build a pool for the dogs (outdoors). Are there any build consultants that are in the TFP way? I'd like to think I can handle it myself by scoping through threads here, but at some point I need to hire out my time. LOL Just want to be sure I'm not missing anything that might be beneficial/needed with the dogs in mind.

Thanks!

We have usually been able to provide feedback for folks to manage their builds (even DIY's), so I don't see why this would be different. Having a consultant would not give you on the ground oversight nearly as much as you personally would. Unless they are there every day of the build, which would get cosly. Though perhaps with it being offsite from your residence, you won't be there either easily. I do think our advice would suffice though, but your availability may be the constraint. You will still want to be highly involved though.

There are plenty of dog owners here in general, and on the Mod Squad, that would love to provide input on this unique specification. Although there is also the resale factor regarding depth or other factors, that may come into the conversation.

I would think the most important part of you build to consider would be filters. Maybe some of the experts can chime in on which type of filter would be best for dog hair. Or you may just want to use skimmer socks/hair nets with the expectation to change them daily after the dogs are in it.

Agreed the filter would be vital. Also, noticed your current pool is vinyl. Certainly would consider something else if dogs are a priority.

Thanks all!

We will not be building a vinyl pool for this venture. Def gunite (or fiberglass if a fun shape can be made, LOL).

Filters were my question also. Dog hair and mud would be the main concerns!

There is a year round indoor doggy therapy/play pool in our area that we use during the winter months for therapy for our wire-haired dachshund to keep her back strong. They have a sand filter and use panty hose, (I'm sure hair nets or skimmer socks will do the same thing) in the skimmer to catch a lot of the fur (insert snob comment about my dog has hair not fur and hence doesn't shed!) out. I can't help with mud as this is an indoor pool. They have both a ramp and steps/platform for easy entry. It is a vinyl pool and they have been in business with the same pool for at least 15 years.

I am sooo in for this one!!! I see a beach entry done with stone leading into the pool instaed of plaster. I also see a large knee deep shelf for the shorter dogs to enjoy. I would make the whole pool 4' deep so humans can walk in all parts of it if needed.

We didn't plan a pool for dogs but I am grateful to have areas where on either end of the pool a dog can quickly exit and do their business before running back in. If gating the pool then I'd make sure there are potty areas in the gated area.

I'd also consider travertine for the coping or deck because of how easy it is to clean without sealing. Also my dog who doesn't swim loves laying on the coping.

Thanks all!

I also like the rectangle shape with ramped walk in's at each end, and a part for swimming in the middle.

Like your idea about the stones, Kim. I am really not well educated on anything but vinyl (which we def won't be doing), so need to read up on gunite and finishes, etc.

I am SO excited about this possibility!
