Does this salt-cell need cleaning?

New to pool ownership and SWGs. See attached photo. Is it time to clean this cell?

There's a large amount of buildup on one plate on the side, and some in one of the middle plates. I understand cleaning also shorted the life of cells. Is it time to clean this one?

Start with the least damaging method first and work up. Acid should only be used as a last resort and your cell is not scaled up enough to need an acid bath.
