Basically I’ll just ask it like this….if I added a couple bags of shock and brushed the bottom of the pool, then tested my cya numbers (because I forgot to do it first) and the test showed my cya at like 150, could that be because I shocked / brushed the pool? I did used to use the stabilized picks so it is possible the cya could be that high but I didn’t know if it could be because I just shocked / brushed the pool which kinda clouded the water up a bit.

A CYA reading of 150 sounds like something you would get from test strips. Is that what you are using to test your water?
Well I know the test doesn’t go to that but it’s pretty much at the very bottom of the test tube and I can’t see the dot no matter what light I look at with.
Yikes, sounds like way more than 150 then...

i don’t know how it could be that high. I maybe used 10-15 pucks. Before that I was using liquid chlorine without sunblock.

That probably has a lot to do with it. Dichlor adds nearly as much CYA as it does chlorine.
Wow, I did not realize that. How the F do most people not have cya skyrocketing when I feel like most people use powdered shock or pucks?!

We avoid solid forms of chlorination. We encourage the use of saltwater chlorine generators (SWG) and liquid chlorine.

If it poofs away quickly when you get near it it's likely not mustard algae. Mustard algae is slimey.
