Thanks! That is what I thought.... but then there was a small hope that maybe my pool builder was smarter. Every time I mentioned if they knew troublefree pool , they didn’t. I’m on my way to a pool store to get some cya. My friend says that the guy at this particular store does not believe in using lots of chemicals just bleach or chlorine. I asked her about their cya and fc and she said she didn’t really know, as her husband took care of it. I’m hoping this guy might follow TFP.

That didn’t go well at the pool store. Good news, they agreed that I shouldn’t put in the stuff my pool company gave me. They tested my water ( mostly with strips) and said my chlorine is low because I haven’t given the swg enough time to work. That I should put in 1 gallon of chlorine tonight and tomorrow. She never heard of trouble free pool and in so many words basically said I was stupid to believe people on the internet about increasing cya and having a balance of cya and fc. She said, “ you are not putting any more conditioner in your water.” Her strip test showed about 20 ppm.

As you have learned, you have to make a choice. Follow the science or the pool store.
As your summer is winding down, you can most likely get away with 40 or 50 ppm CYA for this year. Adding the liquid chlorine is a good idea.
