How is combined chlorine prevented from building up? The SLAM method says combine chlorine shouldn't be above 0.5ppm, so does the combine chlorine stay low if pool chemistry is balanced? I was under the impression that it constantly builds up as free chlorine is used and eventually you have to "shock" it to remove the combined chlorine, but I have been reading the SLAM method isn't needed if chemistry is kept balanced.
Is combined chlorine evaporated by the sun, or is there some other mechanism that prevents it from building up?
