Does black algae float around?

I noticed these black, almost rubbery, substance at the bottom of my pool and the corner. I was able to pick it off with my hand and the vacuum sucked most of it up.

Would this possibly be black algae? I've never had this so I can't tell to be honest. We've had a lot of wind the past few days so could also be some debris.

Not likely.

Rub what you pulled out on a paper towel and see if it smears green. If green then it is some form of algae.
