Do Salt Water Generators Reduce Flow?

Could you temporarily replace the cell with a piece of PVC pipe? Like that you could rule out the SWG directly. Since the cell is unioned in, it should be quite easy.

Edit: On second thoughts, probably doesn't help much, as you want to compare SWG with tab chlorinator, not straight pipe.

If you have (2) 2" suction lines, that would suggest a flow of 45 GPM per line or a total of 90 GPM, which is about 42 feet of total head.

42 feet - 3.4 feet is 38.6 feet or 16.7 PSI.

Your filter pressure gauge shows about 20 PSI, which is probably closer than the pump pressure gauge at about 28 psi.

Here is an update on this. Yesterday, 10/24/22, the pump motor started squealing like a pig. It comes and goes with different sound levels but is mostly on high speed. I pulled off the pipe from the pump to access the impeller and could not move it by hand. I am not sure if that's possible in normal circumstances, however. The good news is the pump is under warranty, and I have a ticket in with the pool installer. I am now wondering by pure coincidence if the motor was failing just when the SWG was installed, causing the low flow rate.

This is what it sounds like. The high-pitched noise was never there before and this is not even 10% of what it sounds like when it is really squealing. Bad bearing?

Wow. Yeah, that motor sounds bad. Glad it’s under warranty. Hopefully they install a new one soon and get you back to full operations.

And yes, you should be able to turn the impeller by hand. It doesn’t need to freely spin but it should move quite easily with little resistance.
