I am truly confused. My pb implied that there should not be water in sump pipe. We live in Southeast Tx where torrential downpours are common. Today we came home from a trip and our sump pipe was full and I panicked. We hooked up a sump pump to lower it and it seems to be working. My question is how often and how much should I worry about this? If we have to evacuate or even go on vacation I don't want to be terrified that I will come home to a popped pool. Is the sump pipe only relevant if I ever need to drain? Pb has not been very helpful on fiberglass installation. Please help me understand exactly when to worry about this.

Welcome to TFP.

Water in the sump pipe indicates you have ground water around your fiberglass pool. As long as your pool is full of water the water in the sump and around the pool is not a problem. You do not need to drain the sump every time it rains.

If you need to drain your pool for maintenance then you want to ensure that the sump is dry and there is no ground water around the pool. The pressure of the ground water can pop your pool out of the ground if the pool does not have the weight of water in it.
