Do I need drain plugs for heater?

Hello everyone,
I’m adding a Raypak 400K gas heater tomorrow. I plan to add a 3 way bypass and a check valve. But not sure if I need drain plugs.. Obviously the purpose is to drain the heater when bypass for a long period of time like during summer and winter so there is no standing water inside the heater... First question Is there another way to drain the heater without installing plugs? 2nd question is it even necessary? Thanks.

As JamesW said, heaters have drain plugs. Most people drain them in places where freezing temp are an issue. If you aren't draining to winterize the heater, you can just open the bypass and run water thru the unit one or twice a week for a few minutes.
