It’s that time of year again for all of us. Im now on my 2nd time opening my pool. My pool looks just as clear as it did when I closed it. It’s currently sitting around 30” of water apx 6k gallons.

Do I really need to buy an “opening pool kit” or could I just fill it back up, add some salt, and run the filter/chlorine generator?

No, not really.
Just balance it up.

Each year I typically need only the following for opening day:

A case of bleach (only need 1 jug, at first, I just like to buy it in cases)
4lbs of cya chlorox granules (I lose 20-30ppm over winter from rain fill/draining)
1 small box of baking soda if needed (I did this year. last year I didn't)
Some mule team borax to counteract the cya lowering ph.
