Do I Need a Spa Cover?

I live in Maryland and am planning to close my pool in the next month or so. I have a round, built-in, concrete spa that sits about ~18 inches above the pool deck with a small (12 inch or so) spillover into the pool. I don't plan to use the spa during the winter since the pool will be closed.

The previous owner covered it with a tarp weighted down by some filled buckets. I'm looking at better options but the diameter is 132 inches from end to end including the coping around the spa. This large size seems to limit options since most online retailers seem to max out around 90-98 inches for their covers.

So my question is, do I actually need to cover the spa? I'm guessing the only benefit is to keep leaves, etc. out but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Do you have a waterline tile around that spa? If so, I would cover. If you allow the snow/rain to accumulate up to the tiles it will freeze and could pop some of them off. Others may have more thoughts or questions though.
Thanks for the response! I have a pump that can keep the water level low if needed. Would love any other thoughts from the group!
