Do I need a New larger Filter?

I’m a new pool owner (70,000 liter in ground chlorine pool with sand filter). Our water was very cloudy blue and would not clear up even after slamming for almost 2 weeks. I had a technician come look at the pool, and they’ve said our filter is likely too small for the pool (it’s 21”), and the sand is old, so it can’t filter properly. Does this sound legitimate, or are they just trying to get us to buy a new filter from them? Should we just change or deep clean the sand instead? Photos of the filter model are attached.

The above ground intex pools are way undersized on the filter and pump but they still get the job done. It just takes longer.

Sand never wears out.

Is the sand sticky from using flock ?

When was the last time you back washed to clean the sand or done a deep clean?

They list as it being an in ground pool. Some quick google math shows that the pool is about 18k gallons.

I have (soon to be had) a 75lb sand filter on my 15k gallon pool. My water is crystal clear. I don’t think it’s a filter size issue persay, unless your pump is oversized and flowing more than the filter is designed for.

How often do you backwash? What are your pool water test results?
