Depends! If you wish to swim in April and early May, yes. Days will be in the 80's and 90's, but nightime temperatures cool the pool off.
My perfect pool here is a rectangle, with benches around it you sit on with water up to your shoulders, an autocover, a chiller, and softened water for fill water. A heater will be nice, but with the cover, you have a chance of getting the water warm by early May and keeping it into late September.
Sadly, I found this out AFTER we had our pool built!
