Do I need a Backflow check valve?

I am doing some refurb on my pool gear.

I am replacing the DE filter with a new DE Filter. I also will be removing a heater that does not work. The heater will not be replaced. On the heater plumbing out flow, there is a back check valve it looks like. Do I need to replace this when I replumb everything? There is a tablet feeder after the heater. I assumed the backcheck was to protect the heater from backflow from the tablet feeder.

You don’t need that CV if you no longer have a heater installed.

My shaft on my hayward 65a and bolts went south from last year. Total failure of all metal parts from my chlorinator. I purchased a new shaft just last year and a new chlorinator thinking that was the issue on the backflow as I didn't used to have this issue. It could be a puck issue with too much gas. I've ordered yet another shaft and 16 bolts. I'll be getting a check valve this time and see if that helps. With the metal parts in the DE 65a I'd recommend a check valve if you have a chlorinator but it depends on how you are plumbed in and if the gases can creep back to the pump after the its switched off. Not the way I wanted to start the swim season :(

Hmmm, interesting...

The chlorine would have a short distance of pipe, then crawl through the multivalve, weasel it's way through the DE filter, and crawl back through the multivalve again to storm the beach against my Pentair Inteliflo.

You have a lot of metal parts in your DE filter?

Mine runs year round every day.
