Diving Board reno?

Hi,

I have a diving board at my pool & after the re-plaster I started to notice some rust coming off the board. I took off the board, the board hand rails, the fiberglass cover & it was a rusty mess. I have cleaned it up, sanded it & will start painting it later today.

When i took off one of the diving board handrails, part of it broke. I would say it looks like some sort of 'compression nut" as it looks like it slid into the hand rail & probably expanded as it was twisted on (maybe).

Any ideas where I could find something like it?

It has a 1/2 thread and the hole is close to 3".

The entire hand rail is about 53" wide from end to end.

Thanks,
Rich

So I think it looks like a press fit insert also. I have a local welder who said he could make something to make it work. I will let you know what happens with it.

The next thing I am working on is finding a place that can repair / repaint fiberglass. This is the 'cover' over the steel mount. It is just for looks (I think).

The local autobody places dont seem to want to get involved with it.

That should be pretty easy. Power wash the cover, get some fiberglass mat, resin and hardener and follow the instructions. Repair it from underneath/inside. You can get gelcoat in tubes/tubs but it's just a cosmetic coat - it will just crack again unless the crack is repaired first.

It's such a small job that I'm not sure you'll find anyone that wants to get into it.
