Disappointed in my new pool

I don't think that you want grass in that stretch along the fence as it an invitation to spewing debris into the pool no matter how carefully you mow it. Lights and more plants (potted or otherwise) along the fence will add to a walled in garden effect and should be quite attractive. If you can keep them well watered some big/tall potted trees/plans on rolling (for ease of maintenance) plant stands strategically placed on the decking will break up the space and give you the greenery you feel you are missing. Umbrellas will break it up, too.

You have a relatively blank slate now and plenty of opportunity to make what you want of it. It will take time and it can be disheartening to see it in the "before" state for an extended period of time but bit by bit you will start seeing your vision brought to life.

Wow, I think it looks amazing! I remember you had posted a while back at the dig/gunite phase where you felt it was too big?
On the flip side, I'm disappointed, mine looks so small, in my already small backyard - I would kill to have a bigger pool, even in my small space. I absolutely love the layout and the pavers/concrete work. I would do some planting, get some outdoor furniture/potted plants/fire pit and it is going to look amazing!

Can't help but add to what others have said - don't panic, it will be lovely. Right now the pool area might well look disproportionately massive, that's partly because there's a big expanse of paved pool surround with nothing on it (and no planting around it). Put some furniture (or indeed plants in containers) on the deck area, green planting in the spaces around it, and it will quickly look more 'balanced' and more of a garden space - and of course you also have a pool to enjoy. I think it'll work out fine!

I see lots of potential. I'm not a big fan of trees really close to the pool simply because of the potential mess to the water, but certainly plenty of room for some nice landscaping. Along the house I see opportunities for slim tables, grill, etc. Once you get that pool filled, landscaping, and perhaps some potted plants, I think you'll feel differentl

Get your Bob Ross on.

The yard makes the pool, not the other way round. But you have one HECKUVA start. :)
haha I guess I am not good at painting but I will try!

I agree with @Headbanger783 . You might consider a propane 'fire pit table' for the sitting area end of the decking, too.
Oh man, I don't know if I'd be disappointed in that space at all. Like others have said, lots of potential! Some mentioned plantings, but I can see a nice putting green back there! Really, anything low maintenance would be a great addition and make for an excellent back yard! A couple nice umbrellas, maybe a few fans for the Florida heat, and love the idea of a propane fire table! We bought one and its the most used area of the pool (besides the pool of course). A nice table, some decorative rocks, and a little flame for ambience and the back yard is a different place!

Wow beautiful space you have! I love the fire!

Yes I did post some before on here but here is another. We have 8 feet between the house and pool, we have a 13/10 screen porch that we are eventually going to redo and 10 feet of decking on either end. No grass space left really now. Maybe that’s what’s bothering me I don’t know. How would you use this space?
I would create a beautiful outdoor living space with some comfortable seating and possibly a small dining set to have dinner with a loved one or a friend. You can accent with different colors and plants in planters too. You may not have grass but you can definitely bring the green in in the way of planters/containers!

I have a lot of concrete and I'm in the process of trying to soften it up and bring planted containers into my decor. Your color selections are endless. Pick an outdoor rug that you love and chose colors from it to start accenting the area to bring it alive. I did aqua blue, and just found a lime green umbrella and an orange one for around the pool for that pop/wow factor. Eventually it's going to come together and you'll make it yours!

Thank you. Your pictures are helpful. I’ve actually already bought the same tiki umbrella you have. Yes I wish it just blended in with the landscape instead of stripped all the landscape away for it. I defenatly need many plants. Everyone that comes in the backyard says wow it’s huge and it is. Lesson learned on my first pool build to not run with whatever the sales guy says.

THAT is a beautiful pool. I don't think it is too big. You will be surprised when you get it finished with your touches.

So my ex was an architect and avid gardner. I was used to doing outdoor labor and even comfortable designing hardscape myself as an amateur but got so hung up on picking plant materials. My landscape guy recommended a garden designer he knew who works on an hourly basis. She spent an hour walking around with me and having me tell her what my problem areas were and what I was thinking. She sent me a detailed list of suggestions (with alternates) which I then researched and was able to divide up between big stuff my landscaper installed vs. smaller things I could add myself over time. Cost was minimal, and it got me off of a year-plus long brain lock.
