Is anyone able to educate me on the functional differences of the different types of return eyeballs? I currently have inconsistent flow among my 3 returns with the middle being the strongest, shallow end closest to the pump 2nd, and the deep end furthest from the pump is the weakest flow. I have the same eyeballs (3/4" I'm guessing) in all 3 so I am not really sure why the middle one is the strongest. The one on the end isn't weak enough to make me thing there is a blockage but a noticeable difference. I want to get more consistent flow from the returns and also better circulation in the deep end since my single skimmer is closer to the shallow end with debris frequently collecting in the deep end.

What is the functional difference of the slotted eyeball compared to the normal round ones? The slotted ones seem like they would disperse the water more instead of like a jet.

For the round ones, I get that the smaller the hole the lower the flow rate and I should have a higher velocity. If I currently have 3/4" round eyeballs, should I switch to all 1/2" to get the even flow and more circulation from the deep end? Or should I switch the shallow end and middle ones to 1/2" and leave the deep end with 3/4" to get a large flow of water pushing into the deep end? I am assuming trying 3/8" holes would be way too restrictive for my single speed pump.

It isn't a big deal to have unequal flow between returns. I wouldn't worry about too much.

The size of the eyeball determines the flow rate through the eyeball and the water velocity. Smaller eyeballs will have higher velocity but lower flow rates and the opposite for larger eyeballs. If you want equal flow rates, then choose a smaller eyeball for the return that feels the strongest now or larger eyeballs for the other two. However, it may feel even stronger because of the higher velocity but the flow rate has actually decreased. Counter-intuitive but that is the way it works. And also why you can't always determine the actual flow rate out of the return by just feel.

The slot eyeball is useful for redirecting flow sideways along the wall.
