This is a fairly long winded thread, but figured someone might have some insight.
I am in a unique situation that complicates my pool / hot tub plumbing. First of all I am off grid so power is a huge Factor in my decision making. Also because of that I need different heat sources depending on the time of year and what is available
To make matters difficult it is too small pools and a hot tub. Pools combined are about 7,500 gallons and hot tub is about 450 gallons. I would like to be able to use the same variable speed pump, cartridge filter, saltwater generator for both my pool and hot tub. Pools will only be running a few months of the year and most likely will be heated with a heat pump since that time of the year I have extra solar power and it is a viable solution. Hot tub will most likely be run off and on throughout all the seasons. But probably not continuous. Was planning on Heating with an on demand hot water heater or something similar. Don't think the heat pump will make it hot enough in the summer but not sure.
the issues that I see arising are when both hot tub and pool are running keeping the water levels balanced. The two pools should be fairly easy with an overflow that connects them together so they will naturally balance out. The hot tub will be raised about a foot higher than the pools so having a similar overflow setup doesn't sound like an option. I'm sure I could play with the Jandy valves and get it close but trying to figure a way to make it foolproof.
the second problem I see arising is when I and trying to keep the hot tub at 104°, with the water heater but not waste extra heat by heating up water from the pool that will be at a colder starting point, than if I was just reheating hot tub water. I know there are a lot of issues just wasn't sure if someone can give Insight of whether this is possible, or realistic. Don't really have the room or money to have to complete setup separate for pool and hot tub so trying to figure out if there's another way
