Depth of slip socket for pipe fittings

I noticed that some PVC fitting for 1.5" pipe have deep slip sockets -- about 1 1/4" -- and some (as in, e.g. found in Home Depot) have shallow sockets -- about 3/4". I'm sure that deep sockets are better, but does it make any appreciable difference? Should I not use the fittings with shallow sockets?

No, you should not. Those are likely DWV fittings, intended for low-pressure use, like for drains and waste lines (under a sink, for example). Use only Schedule 40 fittings, with the "deep sockets," intended for high-pressure applications.

This is confusing at Home Depot, which labels their DWV fittings as Schedule 40. And I believe there are Schedule 40 DWV fittings, but they are only for low pressure.
