Delaying inground pool opening

I normally have my pool open by Mother’s Day but I am planning on being out of town for about eight days in mid May. Should I go ahead and open it or can I wait until I get back at the end of May to open it? My concern is that I don’t have anyone to check it every day to make sure that the pressure and water level remain within safe limits.

The only harm in waiting is that your water temps may rise above 60 and if you have no FC, you risk algae. Plenty of people wait until closer to Memorial Day to open their pools. Just be prepared to have to SLAM upon opening.

If possible, I’d get a water sample to test FC. That should give you at least an idea on what to expect once it is open. If you can get some circulation adding a little extra chlorine might be helpful.
