Defeated by the cord

Hi all!

Summer's back and looking forward to the first decent use of our new pool (inherited with the house). It's been quite a learning experience, to put it mildly.

We have a pool robot (also inherited), and while it does an okay job, I have been totally defeated by the tangling and twisting of the cord. It has gotten to a point where no amount of "reverse twisting" will help. I had tried to straighten it out completely once by stringing it across two fence posts 20 feet apart, but if anything, the problem got worse. Maybe that was a bad idea.

It has been so frustrating that I would even be okay spending more on a "cordless" model with a rechargeable battery, unfortunately it looks like the technology is not quite there yet? I find references to a few of these battery-operated models like the Dolphin LIBerty and others, but they are hard to come by at least in the US.

Does anyone have a cordless model?

Alternatively, any ideas on what I can do with the cord on my current robot?

Have you called around to any local shops that repair robots and see if they can put a new cord on it? The cords can be expensive ($50-$100 + labor) BUT, it's way cheaper to fix something you have then buy a whole new robot....

I agree that once the cords get tangled and twisted, it's nearly impossible to get them to go back the way they were. The previous owner was probably wrapping the cord up too tight and not using the over/under cord wrap technique to avoid twists in the wire.

I don't think Dolphin is making the Liberty model anymore or, if they are, it's not sold in the US very widely. With a Li:ion battery, the lifetime of the battery and limited operational cleaning times would make it pointless for all but the smallest pools.
